USB Internet phone handset with
keypad
Overview
The TigerJet USB Internet
phone handset with
keypad reference design is based on the USB handset design and uses the
Tiger560 controller to scan a standard low cost phone keypad in the
handset. The Tiger560 includes all the necessary keyboard scanning circuitry and there is
no need to use a separate micro controller.
Our design uses a standard
phone codec as the handset audio interface. The Tiger560 chip and a
small number of low cost parts completes the design and adds up to a
very elegant solution.
Using the Tiger560 which has
been designed to conform to Microsoft's USB Audio specification enables
the use of the Microsoft USB audio driver that is provided as part of
Windows (XP, 2000, 98). The audio from the handset is available
in Windows as a standard sound device, so all of the popular Internet
phone applications such as MSN Messenger, Net2phone etc. are supported.
The handset keypad can be
used to dial numbers into IP
Phone Center and other popular Internet telephony applications.
By using a handset to
place Internet phone calls, the inconvenience and problems of attempting to
use the existing PC sound card are avoided. In addition the use of USB enables quick and easy installation.
Our USB handset interface
makes the experience of placing an Internet phone call exactly
the same as if you are placing a regular call.
